Hello, from Opera at Bearwood. Welcome to our website with information for audiences, friends and members. We bring good quality opera to the local community and hope to see you at one of our productions very soon.
Rehearsals are every Tuesday evening at 7:30. We are very keen to welcome new members. Details of our current production are here:
It's not necessary to be able to read music, although it's useful. All are welcome!
Please come along to St James' Church Hall, Church Lane, Finchampstead, RG40 4LU. Ask one of our friendly chorus to point out a committee member and we can welcome you into the group.
We do not audition for chorus roles and all abilities are welcome. For more information on what you could get involved with see below.
Opera at Bearwood is always keen to recuit new talent and you can be sure that we will make you most welcome. We are always looking for, in no particular order:
-
Singers: Any opera group needs singers of all vocal ranges, with tenors being in particularly short supply. However good your singing is, give it a try. Opera is not as daunting as you might think and you'll get plenty of vocal support from the experienced members of our group!
-
Actors: If you are really convinced that you cannot sing but you would like to be on the stage then try acting. Operas need action on stage and sometimes, spoken dialogue. Come and help us with these aspects of our performances. Who knows, we might convince you that you can sing after all!
-
Fund raisers and advertisers: At all times, but particularly during these difficult financial times, organisations such as Opera at Bearwood need to maximise their income to support their activities. If you have skills or ideas in fund raising or advertising then please come and help us!
-
Front of House Team Members: During performances, Opera at Bearwood needs front of house team members to check and sell tickets, to sell programmes, to serve drinks in the interval, to act as fire wardens and to provide any other assistance needed by our audience members.
-
Back Stage Team Members: Opera at Bearwood needs back stage team members to prepare scenery and props prior to the performances, to set the stage between acts of performances, to clear scenery and props from the theatre after the last performance and to provide various other skills and assistance.
If you would like to be involved in any of these activites then please email: jim@operaatbearwood.org.uk.
